# Deductions and refunds

Rules and timelines for holds (HOLD), merchant refunds, and merchant disputes.

### HOLD

HOLD is a temporary freeze on the transaction amount. While the transaction is being processed, the money is unavailable on the card balance.

**Reasons:** The transaction cannot be completed due to issues on the merchant’s or provider’s side.

**Timeframe:** up to 45 days.

**Processing result:**

* the amount is returned to the card balance;
* the amount is charged in favor of the merchant.

The Wanttopay team cannot cancel the HOLD or influence its outcome until processing is complete.

### Merchant refund

To get a refund for a purchase, contact the merchant. They must initiate the refund.

**Timeframe:** from several days to 45 days. Depends on the merchant and the card-issuing bank.

Wanttopay is not involved in processing the refund and cannot speed it up.

### Merchant disputes and blocks

Wanttopay is not a party to the transaction between the cardholder and the merchant.

* Claims regarding the quality of the service should be directed to the merchant.
* For account block issues as well.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Important:** Anthropic blocks accounts for violating its rules without refunds. A refund can only be requested from the merchant itself. The card provider does not initiate chargebacks for transactions with Anthropic.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://faq.wanttopay.net/wanttopay-app/english/kak-polzovatsya-kartoi/uderzhaniya-i-vozvraty.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
