# Payment errors

We’ve gathered the most common payment issues. We explain the reasons and show how to fix them so you can continue shopping calmly.

The most common errors when transactions are declined:

<details>

<summary>Insufficient funds on the card balance (Error code: #D001)</summary>

**What might the error look like?**\
\ <mark style="color:blue;">- Card-The value is greater than the maximum single transaction value</mark>\ <mark style="color:blue;">- Insufficient Funds</mark>\
\
**Reasons**

Insufficient funds on the card balance is one of the most common errors when paying with virtual cards. This error can occur for several reasons; follow our recommendations for a successful payment.

**What should I do?**

* Check your card balance and top it up in any convenient way. After the funds are credited, try the payment again.
* Keep a little more money on the card than needed for the purchase so it covers not only the cost but also the fees.&#x20;
* Take a break between payments for 60 to 120 minutes and try again.

Take fees into account when topping up: Easy card — $0.25 per declined transaction, Pro card — $0.109 per successful and $0.089 per declined transaction. For example, to pay $20 with a Pro card, you need to have $20.11 on the balance.\
\
**What shouldn't be done?**

* Don't try to make the payment several times in a row with insufficient funds — each attempt charges a fee and may block the card.
* Unlink the card from services you no longer use — otherwise automatic charges will continue.
* Don't link the card to services or activate trial periods if you don't plan to pay later. After the trial period ends, the service will automatically charge the money.

**Useful tips and information**

Before making purchases, check the card balance. You can read about all the plans and terms in the section: [Plan comparison](/wanttopay-app/english/tariffs/plan-comparison.md).

<details>

<summary>Restricted merchant category (Error code: #D005)</summary>

**What might the error look like?**\
\ <mark style="color:blue;">- Acct-This merchant name has been restricted (Blacklisted)</mark>\ <mark style="color:blue;">- MCC Restricted</mark>

**Reasons**

The merchant category is prohibited by the issuing bank, or the payment violates the card usage rules.&#x20;

**Prohibited merchant categories:**

Mining, adult content, money services, casinos and gambling, cryptocurrency, arms trading, marijuana-related services, government and military organizations.

**What should I do?**

Check three conditions:

— Your location matches the country in the card billing.

— The account in the service is not linked to prohibited countries: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Serbia, Pakistan.

— The payment currency does not correspond to those countries.

If everything is met, but the error persists, the merchant is blocked at the bank level. There is no way around it.

\
**What shouldn't be done?**

Don't try to make the payment several times — this may block the card.

**Useful tips and information**

Check whether the required service is supported: [List of payable services](/wanttopay-app/english/list-of-services.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Restricted country (Error code: #D004)</summary>

**What might the error look like?**\
\ <mark style="color:blue;">- Restricted Country</mark>

**Reasons**

The merchant is located in a country or region restricted by the issuing bank.

**What should I do?**

Check three conditions:

— The service is not related to prohibited countries: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Serbia, Pakistan.

— Your location matches the country in the card billing.

— The payment currency does not relate to prohibited countries.

If the service is from a prohibited country, try to find an equivalent on another platform.

\
**What shouldn't be done?**

* Do not try to make the payment again and again if you encounter such an error. This may lead to the card being blocked.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Temporary security block (Error code:)</summary>

**What might the error look like?**\
\ <mark style="color:blue;">- Unknown Authorization Error (RiskRuleException: ExpiryFailCount)</mark>

**Reasons**

The security system detected **several failed payment attempts in a row.** Most often due to incorrect card details being entered.

**What should I do?**

* **Stop repeated payment attempts** immediately after the error appears.
* Wait **from 30 minutes to several hours** before trying again.
* Before trying to pay again, make sure the card details are entered correctly (security code, expiration date, card number).

\
**What shouldn't be done?**

* Do not try to make the payment again and again if you encounter such an error. This may lead to the card being permanently blocked.

<details>

<summary>Unknown error (Error code: #D002)</summary>

**Reasons**\
If, when making a payment, you see the message “Unknown error,” it means that our database does not yet have a decoding for this error. Such errors can occur for various reasons — from the specifics of a particular merchant to unusual restrictions from the payment system.<br>

</details>

<details>

<summary>Transaction limit exceeded (Error code: #D003)</summary>

**Reasons**

The payment amount exceeds the maximum allowed for a single transaction. Such limits are set by the issuing bank or the payment system and may depend on:

* the type of card used
* merchant category
* the country from which the payment is made

**What should I do?**

Try reducing the payment amount or splitting it into several transactions.

If the problem persists, contact support via [@WantToPaySupportBot](https://telegram.me/WantToPaySupportBot). We will tell you how to complete the payment another way.

</details>

<details>

<summary>3 or more declined transactions (Error code: #B001)</summary>

**Reasons**

The system has recorded more than three failed charge attempts in a row. Most often this happens when the card is linked to a subscription and there are insufficient funds on the balance. Less often — due to merchant category restrictions or a payment provider failure.

**What should I do?**

Try topping up the card and trying again later.

If you do not plan to use the service, unlink the card in its settings.

If the error repeats, contact support via [@WantToPaySupportBot](https://telegram.me/WantToPaySupportBot), we will look into it and suggest a solution.

</details>

<details>

<summary>10 or more declined transactions (Error code: #B002)</summary>

**Reasons**

There have been 10 or more consecutive failed charge attempts from the card. Such activity may be perceived by the system as suspicious. In some cases, the issuing bank may automatically restrict the card's operation under internal security rules.

**What should I do?**

Stop making payment attempts and make sure that:

* the card is not linked to active subscriptions or services
* the card has sufficient funds
* the details are entered correctly

If the error repeats, contact us via [@WantToPaySupportBot](https://telegram.me/WantToPaySupportBot), we will look into it and tell you what to do.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://faq.wanttopay.net/wanttopay-app/english/errors-and-solutions/payment-errors.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
